ESSSWA Board shared roles, responsibilities at its first meeting

The newly elected ESSSWA Board, which was elected on the 6th Annual Conference of ESSSWA, held its first meeting on 03 January 2008 at Sociology and Social Administration SOSA, AAU.

The Board has shared roles and responsibilities as follows:

Dr. Abeje Berhanu- Vice President , Head for Secretariat Affairs Committee

Dr. Guday Emire – Secretary, Deputy Head for Secretariat Affairs Committee

Mr. Anania Admassu, Treasurer, Member - Fundraising and Project Development Committee

Dr. Gebre Yntiso- Head, Research and Publication Affairs Committee

Mr. Derese Getachew- Deputy Head, Research and Publication Affairs Committee

Dr. Kebede Kassa- Head, Fundraising and Project Development Committee

Dr. Melese Getu- Head Membership Affairs and Regional Chapters Liaison Committee

The 6th Annual Conference of ESSSWA deliberated on salient issues pertaining to family  read conference paper abstracts (Word 60kb)

The 6th Annual Meeting of Ethiopian Society of Sociologists, Social Workers, and Anthropologists (ESSSWA) was held on December 14 and 15, 2007 at the UN meeting hall in Addis Ababa. The Meeting has focused on salient issues pertaining to family, children, and old age in Ethiopia. Family, Children, and Old Age in Ethiopia. 

About 150 participants from government, non-government and international organizations have attended the conference. Scholars, practitioners, policy makers, and other professionals and knowledgeable individuals have presented their study findings at the conference. This year's ESSSWA award winner is the Family Guidance Association. Discussion on ESSSWA’s future/plan and election of new executive members were also held.

NEW Seminar Series on Children 
SEMINAR ON CHILDREN
Three seminars dealing with children were held under the main theme,
Seminar Series on Children. The Fourth seminar is on Child Rights and Poverty.
 
This is the First External Seminar on Children and it is scheduled as follows.
 
Title: Child Rights and Poverty in Africa: Cross-country policy perspective
Speaker: Dr. Assefa Bequele, founder and Executive Director
of the African Child Policy Forum

ESSSWA's Objectives  

The key objectives of the society include: 

Ensure effective contribution of graduates of sociology, social work and anthropology to the social, economic, political and cultural development in Ethiopia;

Improve members personal and professional competence so as to increase efficiency of effectiveness of ESSSWA to the country's build up process;

Assist government, NGOs and private sectors in translating the diverse policies, SDPRP and MDGs in to action.
