ESSSWA resumed its seminar series

As part of its seminar series on children, ESSSWA in collaboration with the Sociology and Social Administration (SOSA) and School of Social Work (SSW) held two seminars; one external seminar given by Madam Advocate Bience Gawanas, African Union Commissioner for Social Affairs and the other was a panel discussion by three recent graduates of the Social Anthropology program. The researchers presented the result of their recent studies on child trafficking, child labor, and the concerns of street children in some parts of Ethiopia. Students and staff of SOSA and SSW attended the seminar.

2) Ethio Child Focused Association (ECFA) is an NGO in Adama Town that collaborates with a number of agencies working on children to address to needs and problems of children in the town. The General Manager has shared his experience in the association.

ESSSWA Board shared roles, responsibilities at its first meeting

The newly elected ESSSWA Board, which was elected on the 6th Annual Conference of ESSSWA, held its first meeting on 03 January 2008 at Sociology and Social Administration SOSA, AAU.

The Board has shared roles and responsibilities as follows:

The 6th Annual Conference of ESSSWA deliberated on salient issues pertaining to family  read conference paper abstracts (Word 60kb)

The 6th Annual Meeting of Ethiopian Society of Sociologists, Social Workers, and Anthropologists (ESSSWA) was held on December 14 and 15, 2007 at the UN meeting hall in Addis Ababa. The Meeting has focused on salient issues pertaining to family, children, and old age in Ethiopia. Family, Children, and Old Age in Ethiopia. 

About 150 participants from government, non-government and international organizations have attended the conference. Scholars, practitioners, policy makers, and other professionals and knowledgeable individuals have presented their study findings at the conference. About eleven papers focusing on the three themes were presented at the conference. Read the Abstracts of the papers presented at the conference (Word 60kb)

This year's ESSSWA award winner is the Family Guidance Association. Discussion on ESSSWA’s future/plan and election of new executive members were also held.

NEW Seminar Series on Children 
SEMINAR ON CHILDREN
Three seminars dealing with children were held under the main theme,
Seminar Series on Children. The Fourth seminar is on Child Rights and Poverty.
 
This is the First External Seminar on Children and it is scheduled as follows.

ESSSWA's Objectives  

The key objectives of the society include: 

Ensure effective contribution of graduates of sociology, social work and anthropology to the social, economic, political and cultural development in Ethiopia;

Improve members personal and professional competence so as to increase efficiency of effectiveness of ESSSWA to the country's build up process;

Assist government, NGOs and private sectors in translating the diverse policies, SDPRP and MDGs in to action.
